Spotlight on Jessica Conner: Award-Winning Interior Designer

Jessica Conner is a talented designer of distinction. Her award-winning work, featured in numerous publications, is respected and admired by industry leaders in the kitchen and bath industry, fellow designers, clients and followers on social media. After scrolling through her Instagram account, it’s not difficult to discern why she is so highly regarded and awarded titles such as “Kitchen Designer of the Year” by Viking in 2018. Her design work is thoughtful, innovative, and always includes a touch of the unexpected. Jessica is the owner and interior designer at Jessica Conner Design and Interiors in the Birmingham, Alabama area.   Jessica’s work includes a new construction project in Homewood, a small historic area just South of Birmingham, AL. According to Jessica, the couple building the home wanted a clean and modern kitchen that was approachable and easy—being that it was located in the heart of the home with connection to the living room. The classic white cabinets were complemented with clean Alba Vera marble countertops. The same Alba Vera marble was used in tile form for the counter to ceiling backsplash and clad the custom hood over the 36” Viking Range. The Viking refrigerator and dishwasher anchored the kitchen without overpowering the light and airy feeling of the space. Open shelving was used to keep the space open and clean. Black sconces replaced the typical island pendants. Brass finish Waterstone faucets and hardware added a glamorous element to complete the space.   We asked Jessica to tell us more about the project, why she incorporated Waterstone products and what it took to ensure that the outcome would be something worthy of the Jessica Conner seal of approval.      What was your end goal for the design? We were going for a casual glam feel. The polished brass fixtures and marble mixed with the open shelves make the space feel luxurious but also a place where people felt comfortable hanging out.    Was there anything funny or unexpected that transpired during the renovation?  This was a new construction project. But we did need to modify the plans from the architect due to the grade of the lot. The corner of the kitchen was supposed to lead to a mudroom but we lost that with the modification and we gained the corner open shelves that I think made the space.    Which elements did you want to include and why?  The marble. We fell in love with the Alba Vera marble at the fabricators’ shop and we found out we could get the same stone in a tile format so we wanted to use it as much as we could. So we clad the walls and the range hood with the same stone as the countertop.      How did you find the right contractor and/or team to help bring this vision to life?  The contractor, Saunders Bradford, is my go-to contractor. We actually share an office now because we work so well together. Their standards of quality are unsurpassed and they deliver when/what they say. It’s hard to come by in this industry.    What made you choose Waterstone products for your kitchen, as opposed to any other brand?  We wanted something unique and loved the rounded details, the polished brass finish of the Waterstone traditional pulldown, pot filler, and bar faucet.    Which products and finishes were incorporated?  The Traditional PLP Pulldown Faucet 5500, Annapolis Bar Faucet, & Traditional Wall Mounted Pot-filler in Polished Brass.     You can see more of Jessica’s flawless design work and current projects by visiting her website or following her on Instagram: @jessica.conner.design. Happy Holidays From The Waterstone Team

With the holiday season in full swing, it can get absolutely chaotic. Despite that, Chris, Darcy and our whole team feel it is important to take a moment to reflect on our blessings this year and express our gratitude. 2019 marked our 20th year in business and we could not be more grateful for every single day that we get to come to the office and do what we do, with people who share our passion for creating the finest luxury kitchen faucets. We do not say that to brag, but to recognize every single person on our team who gives everything that they have to superior craftsmanship. From the sales team and engineers, to the quality assurance team and shipping department, every member of the Waterstone family holds a special place in our hearts. We would not be here twenty years later if it weren’t for a passionate team of innovative and driven individuals who are loyal to our company’s mission and share our vision.  We are utterly blessed to have experienced our most successful year yet, and that is due largely to our customers, designers, and distributors. Thank you all for valuing our dedication to uncompromised quality, appreciating our fiercely unique design and supporting our devotion to keeping everything fully American made. We believe that with you behind us, 2020 will see continued growth, expansion into new territories and maybe even a few new products!  Thank you for being on this journey with us. Words cannot possibly do our feelings of deep gratitude justice, but it is important to express them anyway.  We wish all of you and yours a joy-filled holiday season, a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent’s California Dream House

In a recent Open Door Video Series on Architectural Digest, celebrity designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent give a full-access house tour around their spectacular 1928 Spanish Colonial home in Los Angeles. The stars of TLC’s Nate & Jeremiah By Design take us through the design techniques and innovations that make their home unique.     The 9,000 square foot home starts with a grand stairway in the entry that still has with its original wrought-iron balustrade. Straight out of a movie from Hollywood’s Golden Age. All rooms are large and bathed in sunlight. The backyard is filled with gurgling fountains, a koi pond, vegetable gardens and a 200 year old oak tree. In the kitchen, very little was changed. “This kitchen actually we didn’t really have to change that much because the layout was exactly what it was,” says Jeremiah. “And this island was exactly how it was, the same stone, even the same paint on the base. This kitchen, for whatever reason, the second we walked in to it, it felt like the heart of the home, and it really is the heart of the home. Every morning, every evening, every moment. It makes it that much sweeter.” The main sink area features an polished brass Annapolis Bridge Faucet Suite on a farmhouse sink. It matches perfectly with the Whitechapel brass knobs and surrounding countertops by Ollin Stone. On the island sink sits a polished brass Waterstone Annapolis Prep Faucet with matching Annapolis Filtration Faucet. Circa-1960 French barstools surround the island, with 19th-century French lanterns lighting it from above. Above an amazing stainless steel stove, is a Waterstone brass Wall Mounted Potfiller. Taylor Swift and Vogue Give a Tour of Her Beverly Hills Kitchen Taylor Swift is a major musical talent and seems to be able to do anything – except a cartwheel. We found this out and more as Vogue Magazine asks 73 questions while giving a tour of her Beverly Hills home. For the May issue, the singer answers personal questions including what she’d be doing if she wasn’t a singer (advertising), Googling herself (don’t), favorite drink (coffee), favorite food (chicken tenders) and her double jointed elbows. Although Swift is world famous and an amazingly talented singer and songwriter, she seems right at ease answering personal questions. In the kitchen, the decor has a VMA award right next to the coffee maker and a gold Waterstone Gantry Pulldown Faucet. Good cooking always starts with a great looking Hunley Kitchen Faucet with an articulated spout and a sleek contemporary chrome finish – just like the one Guy uses… very cool. Guy Fieri, chef, restaurateur, New York Times bestselling author and Emmy Award-winning host began his love affair with food at the age of ten, selling soft pretzels from a three-wheeled bicycle cart he built with his father called “The Awesome Pretzel Cart.” After selling pretzels and washing dishes for six years, Guy earned enough money to pursue his dream of studying abroad as an exchange student in Chantilly, France. There he gained a profound appreciation for international cuisine that further strengthened his passion for food. He returned to the U.S. and graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a degree in Hospitality Management. www.guyfieri.com Waterstone Gantry Faucet Now a Regular on Sam the Cooking Guy We love Sam the Cooking Guy and he’s a good friend of the Waterstone family (even though he was made in Canada we gave him a Waterstone Passport!). That garlic bread he is preparing looks awesome, as does that beautiful Contemporary Gantry Faucet on his sink! Sam the Cooking Guy is an everyday guy. He has found a way to make cooking casually understandable. With no fancy equipment and by speaking English instead of ‘chef-speak,’ He is the everyman of television cooking. Sam has been using a Waterstone Gantry Faucet for a couple of years now and can be regularly seen in the background of his show. The show is shot in San Diego, CA right in his actual kitchen. You can get a real sense of how our contemporary style kitchen faucets can add functionality and elegance to any kitchen. We can all relate to Sam the Cooking Guy. He cook with his kids, dogs and neighbors – just like we all do. On his website, he states, “There’s no fois gras… no white truffle oil, no ‘Peruvian mountain-raised squab in sesame-lime-soy marinade stuffed with braised forest turnips and wild inoki mushrooms in a hand pressed plum and raspberry glaze’. I’m just a regular guy, using regular words showing how to cook easy, great food… Food that’s ‘big in taste and small in effort’. It’s a handful of ingredients and a few steps – that’s it. This is a cooking show “for the rest of us,” I like to say. And now it’s on. Thanks Sam! Check out Sam’s great LiveCasts – http://www.thesamlivecast.com/ www.thecookingguy.com
