From Water to Wine Tour – NKBA SoCal Visits Waterstone

How do you go from water to wine in one afternoon? Several members of NKBA were invited to find out at a unique industry event. Called the “From Water to Wine Tour,” over 30 members from the Southern California Chapter came out to see how luxury kitchen faucets are made in America. The tour was organized by NKBA SoCal President Nichole Cooper of Expressions Home Gallery. The two part event included a tour of Waterstone Faucets, then a relaxing lunch out in the Temecula wine country. First was the “Water” part of the event. After arriving by bus from Orange County, the group was given a in-depth tour of the factory and were able to get a first hand insight on the Waterstone process. President Chris Kuran walked the group through the CNC machining area, polishing and plating. VP of Operations Paul Yandell, demonstrated our Kanban process of inventory and faucet assembly. A couple of NKBA members even rolled up their sleeves and helped built a faucet. West Region Sales Manager Ben Newcombe wrapped up the tour with a presentation on why Waterstone Faucets are not only the most beautiful faucets out there, but made with the highest quality and craftsmanship in the industry. Once the factory tour was over, it was to the “Wine” portion of the event. NKBA members and the Waterstone sales team headed out to the Miramonte Winery in Temecula. They were treated to a 5 course wine tasting lunch and a chance to relax. With all that talent in one place, the conversations immediately went to design. We want to thank NKBA SoCal President Nichole Copper for setting up the event. We appreciate the groups support and hope you enjoyed the day! Cooper Pacific Kitchens – West Hollywood, CA

Inspirational design begins in many places. For Steven Cooper, it was a lumberyard in rural Minnesota. During his childhood, Steven’s love of building and design started with Saturday trips with his dad to the local lumberyard. “The lumberyard has heaven,” says Steven. “It was there that I found a love of drawing and building things.” At 14, Steven began working with his father Neil, a custom home builder. In addition to helping out dad on Saturdays, Steven took care of the financial ledger. Steven is now the Principal Designer and Owner of Cooper Pacific Kitchens, a luxury kitchen design studio in West Hollywood CA. Located in the 1.6 million square-foot Pacific Design Center, the showroom is an elegant blend of traditional, modern, moody and smokey. A California version of a East Coast kitchen design. From this location, Cooper Pacific draws most of its’ clients from Los Angeles and surrounding Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Hollywood and Pacific Palisades. However, projects have ranged all across North America. From Hawaii, to Los Angeles, to New York and beyond. Many clients include icons of business, film, music, and medicine that want a living space that reflects their lifestyle. At Cooper Pacific it is about creating luxury. A commitment to beautiful living and creating spaces. “Our passion is creating truly one-of-a-kind designs that speak to who our clients are and how they want to live,” says Cooper. We believe that luxury, at its core, means the freedom to pursue any path, explore all possibilities, and create environments that make one feel special.” In 1984, the Coopers moved west to California. While Steven attended Cal State Northridge and was on his way to a degree in finance, Neil founded Cooper Pacific Kitchens. Their first showroom was located was in the Pacific Design Center and they have been there ever since. In 1986, Steven joined the family business. At first, in management and the financials, but eventually migrated over to design. Working alongside his father, Steven was able to develop and express his creative energies. After his father Neil retired, Steven took over as Principal in the business. He surrounded himself with a team of highly creative designers and project engineers who craft beautiful, luxury kitchens with the utmost attention to detail. A team that brings a love of historical architecture and interiors. Together, the studio is dedicated to an endless pursuit of turning a clients’ dreams into amazing spaces. Although successful design is a delicate balance of beauty and craftsmanship, to Cooper, it all starts with the customer. “We listen to our clients. We find out how each client wants to live and feel in their home, then create an amazing living space,” says Steven. From there, Cooper Pacific takes the architectural characteristics of the home and transforms it into a one of a kind luxury kitchen. “We do not want the standard look. We create designs that set us apart from other designers. Our style ranges from California Traditional to Spanish, Desert Transitional to Modern and everything in between.” Steven says travel has also influenced his designs. The unique architecture throughout the world is inspirational and it shows in his work. Cooper Pacific’s talent does not stop with Steven. Senior Designer Meredith Gullion is an award winning designer that enjoys designing across the broad spectrum of West Coast style. Meredith’s approach to each project starts with a vision of the space that honors the architecture and also reflects, in every detail, how a client wants to live and feel in their home. A third generation Cooper has also joined the team. Steven’s daughter Brittanie has decided to follow in her father and grandfather’s footsteps.Brittanie runs the company’ logistics while Steven’s wife, Giselle, take care of the marketing and social media. Many of Cooper Pacific’s kitchen designs include Waterstone Faucets. “It is a fantastic brand. A functional and high quality fixture that you cannot get anywhere else. The faucets really add a special elegance to each one of our designs.” Cooper Pacific’s talent has not gone unnoticed. Waterstone outdoor shower

Outdoors Showers: Starry Calm Oasis or Cold Water Coffin?

Outdoor showers are becoming more popular as people become aware of the pros of having access to a shower outside of the home, but are there any cons to showering outside? Here is a list of pros and cons to installing a new outdoor shower in your dream home! Pro: Romance galore! If you haven’t ever taking a hot steamy shower under the stars, you should put it at the top of your bucket list! Light a few candles and you have yourself a magical shower oasis without having to worry about fogging up the windows or someone banging on the door needing to use the restroom. Showering outside can be a refreshing change and allow you to escape from the daily routine and do something a little more romantic. Con: It’s dang cold. Showing under the hot water is awesome, but the moment you turn that water off it’s a race to get your towel on and back into the warmth of the indoors. Any kind of wind, rain, or even snow can also add to the icy cold rush back to the house. However, this con can also be a pro if your goal is to wake up! Pro: Great for guests Having an extra shower is always a good thing, especially if you have guests staying over. Showing outdoor is also a novelty and your guests might love the new experience. Having that extra room for showering can ease a small space situation, and be more comfortable for you and your guests. Con: It can get pricey $$$ Having that extra shower available might create a more comfortable situation for smaller homes but that extra water can also cause the bill to rise. Water can get pretty expensive, especially here in California were our Waterstone factory is located, so having another shower might make those bills a little more painful to pay. Pro: Your pet will love it Most of us know the pain of having to bath a pet. When it’s time to give Mr.Barkers a shower, an outdoor shower will be better for you and for him. When it’s cold out, the warm water beats having to hose them down or risk bathing them in the house and getting wet dog smell everywhere. Con: Other animals will love it too If you aren’t a fan of things that creep and crawl, an outdoor shower may not be for you. The reality is that when you shower outside you are OUTSIDE. That comes with all of the lovely little critters that also live outside. Depending on where you live that could mean mosquitos, bees, spiders, mice… ect. However, if you live somewhere that you don’t have to worry about those things (like the moon), outdoor showers are awesome! Pro: Fun for kids If you have a large family, an outdoor shower might be a fun addiction to the house. If you have stubborn little ones that don’t like taking regular baths, perhaps the fun aspect of an outdoor shower might appeal to them. Having extra bribing tools can never hurt when it comes to kids. On top of that you don’t need to worry about them splashing water all over the floor, which is a big plus. Cons: You do still have to clean it Outdoor showers tend to collect things over time, such as leaves, dirt, and anything else the wind can blow in from outside. They can get pretty messy and will need to be cleaned out regularly to ensure that people bathing it are actually getting clean. Pro: It will make you smile There is nothing like being naked outdoors, and an outdoor shower will ensure that your life can still be wild every once in a while. Don’t believe me? Just wait until you forget to bring a towel out and have to run bare-bunned across the yard to the safety of your house all while hoping your neighbors aren’t watching. As adults, it’s important to still keep some spice in your life, and maybe having an outdoor shower will be that spice for you. Outdoor showers aren’t for everyone or every home, but after reading this list they still sound good to you, maybe you should just go ahead and get one. Waterstone hopes you have enjoyed this list, follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Houzz for more articles like this!

Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent’s California Dream House

In a recent Open Door Video Series on Architectural Digest, celebrity designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent give a full-access house tour around their spectacular 1928 Spanish Colonial home in Los Angeles. The stars of TLC’s Nate & Jeremiah By Design take us through the design techniques and innovations that make their home unique.     The 9,000 square foot home starts with a grand stairway in the entry that still has with its original wrought-iron balustrade. Straight out of a movie from Hollywood’s Golden Age. All rooms are large and bathed in sunlight. The backyard is filled with gurgling fountains, a koi pond, vegetable gardens and a 200 year old oak tree. In the kitchen, very little was changed. “This kitchen actually we didn’t really have to change that much because the layout was exactly what it was,” says Jeremiah. “And this island was exactly how it was, the same stone, even the same paint on the base. This kitchen, for whatever reason, the second we walked in to it, it felt like the heart of the home, and it really is the heart of the home. Every morning, every evening, every moment. It makes it that much sweeter.” The main sink area features an polished brass Annapolis Bridge Faucet Suite on a farmhouse sink. It matches perfectly with the Whitechapel brass knobs and surrounding countertops by Ollin Stone. On the island sink sits a polished brass Waterstone Annapolis Prep Faucet with matching Annapolis Filtration Faucet. Circa-1960 French barstools surround the island, with 19th-century French lanterns lighting it from above. Above an amazing stainless steel stove, is a Waterstone brass Wall Mounted Potfiller. 6 Can’t-Miss Kitchen Trends

Story by Preston Guyton There are certain aspects of kitchen design that tend to remain the same from one year to the next. However, there are always slight changes that could really improve the look, feel, or use of today’s modern kitchen. These kitchen trends for 2018 emphasize a sleek appearance, with an uncomplicated design that is nevertheless incredibly luxurious and should be viewed as a great example of home improvements with high ROI. Bench Seating People who think that bench seating is only for barbecues and big families would be wise to think again. Built-in benches that run along walls minimize the space needed to create effective dining space for the whole family. Putting benches on two sides of a table eliminates the boxy feel that a square or rectangular table surrounded by chairs often creates. Instead, it feels open and fresh, ready for everyone to sit down for a meal. Concrete for Countertops and Backsplashes Although natural stone countertops have stood as king of the kitchen mountain for many years, there are other surfaces poised to make a summit attempt. Concrete is a surprisingly practical and useful countertop material, available in a nearly endless variety of styles and colors. With proper sealing, concrete may be easier to maintain than a granite slab. Homeowners can have the concrete poured at their homes, or precast and then installed onto their cabinetry. The effect may be elegant, industrial, or even chic. Smart Upgrades These days, everyone wants a kitchen that will help them make their lives easier. Refrigerators come with built-in screens to help people cook, find out about the weather or traffic, or just listen to music while they prepare food. Smart appliances can connect to a user’s app through Wi-Fi to identify progress of cooking or energy use. Integration of the entire kitchen may allow homeowners to set their lighting, music, and ventilation all on the same system. Fixtures in Striking Colors Although the brushed or satin nickel finish of many kitchen fixtures remain popular, many homeowners are starting to branch out into color choices that range from classy to brassy. The prevailing interest in white quartz, concrete, or marble countertops, with white kitchen cabinets indicates that people have to find some color in the kitchen space. This means that kitchens are bursting to life with faucets in black, rose gold, gold, brass, and copper. Maximizing Useful Cabinet Space A kitchen with tons of cabinet space may not be laid out in a particularly effective way. At present, people are beginning to realize that the cabinet shelves at the very top are not exceptionally useful for them. As such, trends push toward the removal of some of the upper cabinetry, in favor of shelving and pull-out drawers to maximize the space of lower cabinets. This concept opens up the kitchen, increases the amount of viable counter space, and minimizes the wall space occupied by cabinets. Built-In Cabinetry for Appliances The idea of the centuries-old farmhouse with its scrubbed wooden table and rustic cabinetry has an almost timeless appeal. Put a stainless steel refrigerator and dishwasher in there, and it spoils the entire effect. For people who are willing to pay a certain premium, they can have their appliances built into their kitchen cabinetry, for a seamless look that loses nothing over any other modern kitchen. Cabinets can also accommodate space for small appliances, which declutters the countertops and helps to keep things tidy. Building the perfect kitchen is often based on trends that are popular for the year. In 2018, the countertops become functional, and let colorful fixtures take the limelight. Seating and cabinetry go simple, while the appliances stay at the top of the smart home game. Waterstone Classic Bronze Finish
Company News, Kitchen Design, Manufacturing, Product

Waterstone Adds a 30th Finish – Classic Bronze

Waterstone is proud to announce our newest addition to our finish collection – Classic Bronze. The 30th finish in our faucet line, Classic Bronze will add a warmth and charm to any kitchen design. Waterstone has always kept on top of kitchen trends and the market has asked for this new color tint. “This will be the hot finish for 2018,” says Darcy Kuran, Southern California Sales Rep. “Kitchen designers and home owners want to bring in earth tones and warm hues to their home. Since the kitchen is the most used room in the home, we want to enhance these designs by offering an elegant finish on a beautiful faucet.” When it comes to a particular look, architects, kitchen designers and DIY home owners demand authenticity. We have provided a new hue that will help recreate that early American style and will bring a timeless beauty to any traditional or contemporary kitchen. Classic Bronze is a perfect choice for someone who needs a finish between the shine of a Satin Brass and the darker patina of a Antique Bronze. The early days in America history was a simple time, but it’s color palettes are still influencing us in the modern world. Our Classic Bronze finish was inspired by the spirit of our forefathers and their love of warm and rich earth tones. A spirit shared by us at Waterstone and is reflected in our American made faucet designs. We looked at historical palettes that are based on earth tints, sourced either from iron oxide or copper. Then fused these tints  to create a warm hue familiar to us from early American applications – brown, burnt orange, ochre, umber, and sienna. At Waterstone, we have blended art and technology to create one of the most beautiful finishes in our product line. A timeless look that will warm your home and bring the history of America right into your kitchen.

For this they turned to their favourite shop, Winterberry Lane that specializes in chic French décor and offers the exclusive design services of Designer Jackie Glass. Together Jackie and Winterberry Lane were able to achieve the look the couple had been dreaming of for their beautiful new kitchen. Inspired by the swirling mosaic border in the backsplash, Jackie started with her signature colour palette of classic neutral tones in warm white, soft blue and subtle cream. Introducing these soothing colours throughout the kitchen would help balance the high contrast between the white cabinetry and the dark-stained floors and add just the right touch of ooh-la-la charm to the space. The key to instantly translating the traditional tone of the space to a soft chic French style, the dull beige walls were painted in an intriguing gray/blue/green colour (Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray) that delightfully changes with the light, adding dimension and warmth day and night. Next, soft sheer linen blinds help diffuse the harsh sunlight that streams in through the south-facing windows and lend softness to the overall look. Finishes were carefully chosen by Cranberry Hill Kitchens. The durable Caesarstone (Dreamy Marfil) creamy white countertops work beautifully with the integrated round Corian-topped (Vanilla) dining table that sits on a uniquely shaped custom pedestal base. Corian was chosen over quartz to offer a softer touch to the dining surface. The clever mixing of surface materials gives the kitchen a uniqueness that transcends typical finishes and styles found in today’s kitchens. The white Franke Fireclay farm sink with antique-pewter pull down faucet by Waterstone Faucets define the French-country look while offering practicality and sophisticated style. A matching pot filler accents the tumbled stone backsplash over the stove, an addition that the owners didn’t think they needed but found they can’t live without! The enameled details and old-world styling and finish of the faucets add an authentic custom look to this elegant kitchen. In the dining area, the stunning wall-to-wall built-in china cabinet with glass-front doors, offer the owners a place to display treasured items along with tableware for everyday use in the kitchen and special occasions in the formal dining room that’s just off the kitchen. Interior lighting makes the contents sparkle. From Winterberry Lane, Jackie chose a set of gorgeous Louis IV dining chairs, dripping with French charm, upholstered in a soft cream/green/blue check (Kravet 1513) and a French-style, painted-iron chandelier for over the table to complete the look, creating a welcoming French-inspired kitchen that the homeowners have been longing for. Fait accompli! To see Jackie in the kitchen on Cityline click here. Photos by Karen Kirk
